Ages 2.5 to 5 Years
The Junior Program at Heritage International School is thrilling, most enlightening, with a plethora of fun-filled learning experiences. The Pre-Primary wing is comprised of young learners aged 2.5 years to 5 years. We offer a consistently structured routine focusing on early education which can inspire the love for learning.
We provide an environment for children to explore a sense of self, play with peers and build self-confidence. The Junior Program curriculum sets the tone for learning by kindling the inherent curiosity in young children.
At this stage, children are active and curious to explore — they love to play by engaging in activities that interest them. While the Pre-Primary program builds on pre-literacy and pre-numeracy skills, it also focuses on developing social and personal skills as well as critical and creative thinking. This is an important developmental stage that lays the foundation for lifelong learning.
The use of innovative and engaging teaching methodologies incorporating a blend of Montessori and Play-Way techniques helps create a happy learning environment with fun-filled activities.
The Montessori approach at Heritage Junior places the child at the centre of their own learning. Children are given the freedom to choose their activities within a carefully prepared environment — developing independence, concentration and intrinsic motivation from the earliest age.
Montessori materials are hands-on, self-correcting and beautifully designed — making abstract concepts tangible and accessible for young learners building their first academic foundations.
The Play-Way method recognises that play is the natural language of children — and that the most powerful learning happens through joyful, purposeful play. At Heritage, every activity is an opportunity to discover, create and connect.
From imaginative role-play and story-telling to group games, rhymes and creative construction — Play-Way activities build language, numeracy, social skills and creative thinking simultaneously and joyfully.
Seven defining principles that guide every day of learning in the Heritage Junior Program — from how children play to how they grow.
Emphasis on the holistic development of children in creative, intellectual, linguistic, emotional, physical and social domains — nurturing the whole child, not just academic readiness.
Learning by doing is encouraged through projects and activities involving art, craft, music and dance — making every concept tangible, experiential and memorable for young learners.
Children explore the environment around them, discover and develop new interests, enjoy learning and satisfy their curiosity — building the habits of inquiry that last a lifetime.
Toys and innovative teaching aids, story-telling, role-play, group activities and rhymes are integral to the learning process — making every session an engaging adventure.
Theme-based activity rooms provide opportunities for the development of motor skills, creativity, imagination, teamwork and social skills — through purposeful, structured play environments.
Festivals and special celebrations help children understand and value cultural heritage and appreciate diversity — building a sense of belonging, identity and joyful community spirit.
The Junior Program aims to make a pleasant transition to the primary school level so that children are gently and confidently initiated into the world of formal learning — arriving at Grade 1 with curiosity, confidence and the foundational skills they need to thrive.
The Junior Program focuses simultaneously on six interconnected domains of child development — ensuring that every Heritagian enters primary school as a balanced, confident and capable young learner.
Art, craft, music, dance and imaginative play fuel creative expression — helping children develop a voice, a vision and the confidence to share both.
Pre-numeracy, pre-literacy, problem-solving and reasoning are built through hands-on, curiosity-driven activities that make thinking an adventure.
Story-telling, rhymes, role-play and conversation build strong oral language foundations — preparing children for confident reading and writing.
Children learn to identify, express and manage their emotions in a safe, nurturing environment — developing the self-awareness and resilience they need throughout life.
Gross and fine motor skills are developed through movement, games, art activities and purposeful use of manipulatives — building body confidence and coordination.
Sharing, turn-taking, group activities and celebrations build the social skills and community spirit that form the foundation of all meaningful relationships.
